    Comments, Additional Information, References

The cobblestone building was built circa 1830 by Dr. Oliver Reynolds. He owned a bit of property in the early days of our village. Dr. Reynold's sold his patent medicine "Reynold's Lung Restorative" a forerunner of many cure-alls. He was an author and inventor and postmaster from 1834-1849. At the time this photo [GWall photo Hendee Store.jpg below] was taken, Robert F. Hendee and Son were proprietors of a general store at this location. In addition to his general merchandise he made and sold simple coffins. He was postmaster for many years starting in 1873. The building was demolished in 1937 to make room for an Esso Service Station, operated by William Kielon, owned by Webaco Oil Company. Webster Historian, Lynn Barton, email dated 8/18/2023.

Formerly the old Hendee Store, a general store. Mr. Thomas Gaffney, Webster Town & Village Historian, Permanent File of Cobblestone Structure.

Former commercial building at W. Main St. and southwest corner of South Ave., village of Webster, Monroe County. A 2½ story cobblestone building with gable roof that was located at the "Four Corners" of the village of Webster. There are photos of this building, but it was demolished, probably by the 1940s. Today, a c. 1980s commercial building is located on this same site (further research needed). Cynthia Howk email 6/30/2020.

Editor's Note: On a paper copy dated 6/8/92 of a postcard shown below is a notation by Cynthia Howk "demolished c. 1900".
